This Fall some of our 10th grade students attended the annual Community Schools EmpowerMe event! This event was designed to empower 10th grade girls in the areas of attachment, regulation, competency, and health. Girls from across Wayne County school districts participated in breakout sessions revolving around Health Trivia, Inclusion and Kindness, and Nutrition. Students played games to learn about healthy coping skills and a fun movement dance session. Partner agencies from around the county including University of Rochester, Finger Lakes Community Health, Survivor Advocacy of the Finger Lakes, Family Counseling Services of the Finger Lakes, and Wayne County Behavioral Health were integral in planning and supporting the event. Students had the opportunity to talk with these agencies to learn more about the support systems they offer our communities. Students also participated in a self-esteem boosting activity, where they were instructed to tape a piece of paper to their backs, and have peers write positive comments about each other. We are already looking forward to the fun and empowerment at next year’s event!
