Instrumental Music, Grade 4 and 5

Students in grade 4 at C.S. Elementary can begin to learn to play a band instrument!  The C.S. Elementary Band consists of flutes, oboes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, french horns, trombones, baritones, and percussion instruments being played by 4th and 5th graders.  At the beginning of the school year only 5th grade band students attend weekly band rehearsal.  Once the 4th grade instrumentalists have reached a certain page in their lesson book they are able to join with the 5th graders and attend band rehearsal.  Interested students are able to try out all of these instruments to see which one would be the best fit for them before deciding.  This process starts at the end of the third grade year, when students are taken in small groups during the day to try the instruments and discuss which ones they find the easiest.  Summer lessons are available for beginner students following the third grade year.

Students in the band have one weekly lesson and full-group band rehearsal.  Students are expected to practice at home to learn their lesson material.

The C.S. Elementary Band performs in two concerts each year - one in December and one in May.

We welcome and encourage all students to try out the band instruments to see if they would like to become part of the C.S. Elementary Band!
